The reference to the residential area actually refers to the very active commercial strip that services the area. You will find a busteling arts/galleries, restaurants, clubs, theaters and bakeries all within walking distance of each other. The architecture is mostly a Retro 1920’s to 1940’s Art Deco. The housing started in the early 1900’s. The most noted architecture of it’s time are elaborate homes of Prairie and Revival styles, within the “Wilson Island” area, the beginnings of the Tower District itself. And throughout you will find Postmodern, Craftsman, and Bungalows of all sizes. The walking distance to the strip is a big draw to those who live here. You will need a good sense of home repair, restoration and older home maintenance when considering a purchase here. Homes start in the low $200K’s.
